Me and my problems
show user profile  icemonkey
So ive been studying max for 3 years out of extreme personal interest, ima bout to start a college course in games design, although my my eventual goal is to work in movie or game CGI scenes (such as blur)
I have so many ideas but there's allot i just get bogged down with, ive never yet been able to create an entire character. it saddens me that after 3 years of searching the web for tutorials, finding brilliant ones, and still failing.
I think this course will mostly cover the things i already know.

Here are some of my incomplete protects.

If you want to be doing film or game cut-scenes, you may want to re-think a "games design" course... like, majorly.

agreed if you want to be doing cut scenes ect... you want to be studying amore specific subject. The uni I wnet to had a Animation and special effects degree that covered what I think your hoping to study.

Take your time looking around all the courses out there.

There`s a lot of shit general 3d and animation courses out there tho, much better chance imo of getting a job ( in the uk at least ) through a games course - plus it might be a better basis to develop high-poly from..

"I've never yet been able to create a complete character"

if that's one of your goals then you came to the right place: check out the sea turtle tutorial from grotey and the human face tutorials from maddog bomber for modeling and then dave's rigging tutorial. You'll be flying if you follow those and master the basic concepts. I understand what the others are saying about specific courses being better than just general 3D courses, but you can teach yourself a hell of a lot if you carefully read up and watch the right vids. A lot of the general skills you pick up could be transferred to different elements of the 3D graphics world. My qualification is industrial design, my commercial experience is largely interior design, but none of that has stopped me learning basic web, graphics, 3D and video editing skills in my spare time. Go for it.
