MaxSDK ... accessing the faces of a cube map ...
show user profile  advance-software
Hi all,

I know we don't have many maxsdk programmers around here, but maybe I'll get lucky ...

I'm extending our exporter to process DirectX shaders and am trying to convert cube maps.

The SDK gives me a PBBitmap for the cube map, but this seems to reference the first face only.

How do I access the other five faces in the cube map ?

maxscript/sdk sub-forum at cgtalk might be a better mating ground.
Still not many of them left. Either they're facing extinction or they meet at secret places...

*sigh* ... it is you two who should go forth and multiply. :-)

Thanks Garp, I've posted on the Area & direct with Autodesk.

CG Talk might also be worth a shot. I can process the file outside of the maxsdk if need be, but I'd prefer to figure out how to read cube maps, so we can access procedurally created textures / render output too.

Edit :

Update from Autodesk tech support : You can't currently access the cube map faces from the Max SDK. The workaround is to read & access the DDS file directly. (eg. via D3DX).
