| Maxscript fun: A couple of examples |
Dave |
Bobbyboy, you're a star for putting these all into a .pdf mate, and I really appreciate it, but whilst scrolling through it, thinking about printing it off to have a read through whenever I find myself away from the machine I notice something reeeaaally annoying...
The text is pretty huge! And with loads of spacing, does it need that much spacing? I mean it's like 20 odd lines of code per page. Also, you can't copy and paste text on .pdf's can you? Cause at the start of Nick Clarks colour-ranging/gradient script it says "Just copy and paste the below into the maxscript listener to run the script"!
I'd really like to get this printed out when it's all finished, it could prove insanely useful to know, but it's currently clocking in at about 44 pages (i think)... I don't even think I have that much paper left =S.

Hey dave, thanks for the comments :)
I know it is pretty big at the moment, thats a combination of formatting and font size as well as just a heap of content. at the moment the font is only around size 12, but I can make it smaller to lower the page count. If you want to print this off later once it is finished, I wouldn't print out the appendix at the end with the big script examples, cos even just that first one that nicks posted is very long, and i'm not going to play around with the formatting to get rid of extra spaces, cos i'd probably stuff something up. But to answer your other question, you can copy and past text from a pdf, just so long as it isn't write protected. Just use the select text tool that is located next to the hand tool.
I'll try to make it smaller next update :) Cheers

Bobbyboy, you are a star, man!
I will make a more compacted version of that really long script, it's ruining your excellent work. I am really impressed with what you are creating. Recording this stuff is just as important. Good work, mate.

Is it necessary to have such a wide margin on both sides? I mean it's a half a page margine when you add them up. And why is the code near the end written with an empty line after each line of text?
Great idea Bobby, but fix it to be great work

Horizon, the code at the end pasted in like that because of the spaces in my original script. He didn't want to reformat it for fear of destroying the script. But, you raise a good point here, which is what to do with long scripts, and external files.
I will provide him with a more compact version of it, but it leaves us with a problem. I think a zip file should accompany the PDF, which can contain scripts like this, and any max scenes that the tutorials will require (my next tutorial needs a scene file, which I will provide).
What do you guys think would be better, having a link to a website which contains these files, or having a zip file that should accompany the PDF? I'm open to suggestions.
I think we should hone this to perfection, we are writing a book here! I hope Bobbyboy will stick with it through the revisions we will need!

Hey nick, thanks for the encouragement! means a lot to me :) I'm just happy to be involved, it's really not that much effort on my part and being i'm out of school and out of work at the moment, I have some time on my hands. I'll continue to make any changes nessesary (word and its weird formatting permitting ofcourse :P) I might also have a look into using indesign, i think i have an old version lying around somewhere.
I agree that something like an external zip or rar file would be a good solution. should we put the pdf in there as well so there is still only one file?
I gotta say though, this is going to be really awesome when it is finished, I mean, you are right, this could easily turn into Max forums first book! :D

Hey bobbyboy you might want to get Niks website correct at the top of the pdf :op www.nikclark.com not wwwnickclark.com
