Max Tri's?
show user profile  murch2001
Hey, Ive recently got 3DS Max 08 to help with my college work, i load it up and its great :D, but recently for some reason its been turning EVERYTHING, even standard objects into tri's, ive put a picture below of whats happenening!

As you can see, in the highlighted area, which should just be a 4 sided poly, has somehow turned into 2 tri's? and this is for EVERYTHING, if i open up a file that was perfectly poly'ed, it will just turn everything into tri's!

Please, someone help!

Out of curiosity, how do you have a sub-object selection there... with nothing actually selected? (I see no object selected)

Anywho, this might be what you're looking for:

Then again... it might not be.

I did what you said, and found that it was ticked, so ive unticked it, but still to no avail, it has the line going through each poly!

sorry lol

Is it an imported mesh? ie .3ds or .obj?

There's quite a few reasons for this in all honesty... and some of them have no easy fix.

@ dave

No this isnt imported, EVERYTHING i do in my max has this problem, even if i create standard objects!

@mrgrotey

I'd rather find another way than having to use a 3rd party program, maybe something wrong with my actual settings perhaps?

is this a display issue or is the triangle real? if you select a polygon does it select the quad or the triangle?

its not an external program its a script that you run within max, but if they arent 'real' triangles anyway then that's not your problem in the first place.

have you tried switching between openGL and direct3d graphics drivers?

or maybe untick the other check box in daves image called 'use triangle strips'
