Max's Archive System: Can be set to use 7zip?
show user profile  Astralogic
Hello, could someone tell me please can 3ds max 2012 be set to use 7zip so that when I save an archive it is saved as a .7z file instead of a .zip file.

Thanks.

Search for Archive in the help file, there are full instructions.

Customise->preferences->files:

In the Archive System group, enter the full path and executable file name, and any command-line option you want for your external archive program in the Program field.

Zombie thread. yay.

I'm having trouble setting up 7 Zip to replace MaxZip for archiving. I have followed the instructions from the manual but I get the error "file archive failed (code 7)"

I have tried both.

blahblah\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" -x!"nul

and

blahblah\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe

With no joy. Anyone successfully set this up?

For some reason MaxZip is failing on a large project and I need an alternative. Thanks :)

Looks like you can use resource collector and manually zip but that seems to miss VRayHDRI files and Proxies. :(

Maybe there is a script somewhere that performs a similar function?

Edit.

Found this seems to have saved the day. :D

You can use Save/Archive instead of the resource collector. It seems to miss less HDR files and network files.

Neither option seems to work perfectly.

Yeah I was using archive with MaxZip but getting an error on a certain file causing the whole operation to fail. Strange.
