Max pricing and licensing
show user profile  Boing
Just wanted to check I've read the upgrade licensing correctly if someone can confirm? I haven't upgraded since 2013 at which point Max was £500 a year for an upgraded perpetual license. Just checked and it seems to be saying an upgrade is £1600 per YEAR for a 1 year license?

So I pay £1600, get 1 year of usage and if I don't pay again next year the license ends and the software can't be used any further, have I got that right?

oh and here is the kicker for any of us that were on the maintenance package (perpetual with yearly discounted upgrades), if you do not switch to full rental, you are not allowed to download service packs/hotifxes as they are now for rental only customers

Also, if you install an upgrade and decide to uninstall and go back to your old perpetual license you have to pay an annual licensing fee to use the old software, I nearly got stung by that last year.

What a bunch of money-grabbing cunts.

Are there any modelling packages that match Max's feature set without the price gouging?

For modelling specifically i believe blender and modo have a very good set of features. I tested blender out for modelling I think its quite capable and has a few features max could actually learn from. I only seen Modo from Garps post awhile back it looks look a good modeller too
