Max keeps freezing :S
show user profile  VKotek
Hey guys, I've allways had problems with max ( eg everytime I closed it I got that autodesk message that it crashed and if I want to send feedback) but as of few last days, max just freezes after a few minutes of work ( and is incredibly slow, mostly loading the interface, so maybe something with HDD?)

yeah basicly it becomes unresponsives and every window that goes infront of max just prints itself into max when I minimize it.

This has forced me to use XSI for the last few days and I am going bullocks from it, please help!!!

I remember back in the days of using Max 4 I think it was... getting crazy slow launch times... viewport couldn't handle much either. I eventually came here for some advice and it turned out that it was my Norton Anti-Virus. Safe to say I've never used ANY Norton products since.

hmm yeah. I dont have an antivirus at all. although sometimes Schvost.exe hoggs up the entire CPU, so I have to close it and then its fine. otherwise I dont think theres anythign that could be doing this. I am on max 9.

do you mean svchost.exe?
if not you need to do a virus scan most likely

svchost.exe can be infected too, or simply a virus disguised as it.
Try avast if you want free, or NOD32 commercial

Also, have you tried reinstalling max

download process explorere from the windows website. this will help you see what is running in the back ground. Also download windows defender. Works pretty good. For the virus software, try avg. pretty good and nto very invasive.

aah more antivirus stuff!
ok, I tried the process explorer, cool program that is.
the blue part is when I launched max until it crashed and I killed the process. you can also see the full list of processes so if anyone sees any bullshit please tell me.

thanks all

if you right click on the processes it will give you an option to google the process. I would just keep trying to shut things off and see at what point MAX stops crashing.

ok I'll try it.

strange that another process would mess up max thou. isnt it more likely to be some drivers, or max itself?

EDIT: aaah, now it froze at the loading screen...

max was working for you on that computer right? Have you installed anything or added any hardware or anything? If so, unistall the software or try updateing the drivers for the hardware.

The process explorere is where i would start.
If that doesn't work, and if you haven't added anything, you could make a new restore point (incase you have a problem) and then restore your system to the day before you started having the problems. But i would try shutting things down first through process explorer). if you do a restore, then anything that you installed after will not work properly.
