Material Movement Similar to the TV Show Chowder
show user profile  Silentrizz
I was wondering if it is possible to move a textured object and have the texture to stay in one spot like the show Chowder?

Perfect example at 50 seconds with the hat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT8ostvOvhw&feature=relmfu

I'm assuming it involves using an alpha or mask and layering your object over a pattern? This effect will need to be done in 2d fyi or I don't think it would look right at all..

Shouldn't be all that challenging though (might take a while, but very doo-able).

I just want to be able to move some vertci with a rig but still maintain the same shape of the material.

well, depending on how simple your object is you could use a morpher with a UVW Map?

edit: And you could also mess around with animating the UV Mapping gizmo as well, but the morpher will be more precise without as much guess work... Now, I'm not sure if this will work if you have an actual rigged character in a more complex scene, but for the super simple this is what I would do.

Cheers and good luck!

Ok, it works well but it resets my uvw unwrap mapping and it doesn't change anything if I add the uvw unwrapping modifier. How can I get the unwrapping to work?

Set your image map to 'Environ''. This probably won't show in the viewport with Nitrous unless you set it to 'realistic with maps', and it's not bang-on accurate to your render result but it will show you what's happening at least.

Here, I installed Jing just to show;

Nice one bonzepeet. A little bit more straight to the point than my suggestion.

That's amazingly simple. Thanks Peetlee. Now I just got to think of a reason to use it.

I think the unwrapping thing was a bug because it works now but thanks for that bonzepeet because I might be able to use this later. CASE CLOSED.
