material in only certain areas
show user profile  vkhu
Every time I apply a material to an object, it spread across the thing's entire surface. I only want to apply it to certain zone but I keep having to detach and reattach the surface areas I want and it's pretty time consuming. Is there a better way?

And while you are at it, mind telling me how to make the material (in this case, a picture) not stretch out to fit the object but loop across it?

Search the help files for: multi-sub object materials and material ID's.

It sounds like you need to set the tiling of the material to something more than 1, or map it differently.

In material editor get a multi/sub-object in the material sphere and make a material in the first and second su- material.
Make sure your object is a poly or mesh object.
In modify panel of your object.select the polygon icon in selection.
Select the parts of your object that needs a other material.
Below in the modify panel you see material set id chance that to 2 so the selected polygons get the color of sub-material 2.
