MassFX help
show user profile  magarlick
I wonder if anybody can help with this scene, please.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/rojma0ptzwxayzr/Shell09.max?dl=0

Basically I'm trying to simulate a spherical shell exploding form the inside, with the fragments flying outwards. I've created the shell and set it to dynamic in MassFX. I've collided this with a smaller sphere from the concave side, set to kinematic. It sort of works by the various bits fly off far too quickly. I'm looking for a very slow, gradual explosion. What am I doing wrong? How can I slow this right down?

Also many of the bits that fly off have to me what seem to be unphysical paths. They should just fly off in a straight line but they seem to orbit a point outside their surface. The pivots are all centred on them so I don't get it.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers.

try rayfire, its free and its perfect for this. Massfx is flakey at best - depending on what version of max certain components work fine, then stop working for no apparent reason. Then i switch back to an older version of 3dsmax and those componenets work fine, then others dont etc.

oh its free.

only if you want rebars you pay money... you can re-sim to create 'rebars' if you really need them, 90% of the time you wont.

However if you do start to require them (you will be using it alot in that case), then id say its worth the upgrade.

I also compare time spent vs results. Massfx the time you will spend debugging is almost directly worth the money for a simple plugin that actually does what it says. Its free to use anyway, give it a shot let us know your experience, or if you find something else share :)

Thanks, Donvella. I've used it for a couple of days now. It's superb. Way better than Mass(ivefail)FX
