Macroscript lost on restart
show user profile  3joez
With Max2012 my macroscript (joescript.mcr) works just by placing the mcr file in the startup folder. It remembers the ui icon and everything is ok.
In max 2011 when I evaluate the script, it goes in the category menu (under customize), the icon appears and I can drag it to the UI. The problem is that when I restart Max the icon disappears and says "missing script".
I've read pages of help and forums and everyone says different things (one says put it the script folder, another in the ui\macroscripts and so on). Actually I've tried all the suggested solutions but it still does't work.
Note: I have also two bitmaps placed in the UI\icons.

Normally, when you evaluate a macro, it gets saved to the userMacros folder, somewhere deep down users/AppData/Local/... ... .. .
I also vaguely remember having some funky problems with Window7, something to do with their 'run as administrator' thing. I would work on a scene, save it and it wouldn't do it but it wouldn't complain either. So it 'looked' normal, except that nothing was saved. I lost quite a few hours of work that way.

I know that when I evaluate the script, max make a local copy in that incredible directory user/appdata/and so on/blah blah. That is said in the help. But why the mcr won't load in max 2011+Xp?

Is it just that particular macro or any macro?
Try a dummy macro with just something like print "howdy" in it. On the off chance that you're using something that max 2012 understands but not max 2011.

Doing a simple ms script and doing a label "howdy" works. I put it in the startup folder and voilĂ .
Now things are getting complicated.
Still wondering why that mcr file won't work as expected.
