mac as a pc?
show user profile  STRAT
i use both macs and pcs in work, but am kinda stuck - i prefer the general user feel and layout of my pc, but prefer the performance from my mac.

is there anything i can download and install in my mac os that'll make it look like and feel like windows xp?

Is installing Windows on it out of the question?

"I thought you already used windows on your macs, no?"

I was thinking the exact same... something to do with installing XP under "bootcamp" or whatever?

yes, i do use windows on my mac, but the mac os is so much 'better' than the windows os as far as processing and rendering is concerned, so when i'm in a serious render mood i switch into mac mode. this is when i want a mac mode windows environment type of thing :)

I've seen stuff like this:
but it only changes the colours/button shapes etc, I think. Check out the one called Odio. Never seen anything that changes the structure and layout, though.

i would advise to adopt the new os logic to avoid future hassle and frustration
look and feel is something you adopt from many years of use, it will fade as you enjoy the new os more

i have found one and only one theme to make OS X look like XP, and it is ungodly crappy.

This post does not help.

Did your research lead you to object dock? I loved that so much I bought the pro version. My desktop be as clean as a whistle. A very clean whistle.

I think the reason there's no alternate window manager for OSX is mostly because it would be a lot of work, and secondly because that work would have to be done by the Apple user base, that is largely comprised of people who think the way Apple does interface and workflow is flawless and couldn't be improved unless Steve Jobs himself writes the golden code to do so.

Personally I find that the dock and finder are some of the worst designed things ever.

[edit] Hmm actually I just found XonX, but omg..

my biggest problem with mac os is the basics - mouse and cursor movement. i hate it.

windows has a constant mouse/cursor speed. osx has a slight ease to/ease from effect to it. a very slight speed up/ slow down effect. it's not a constant. i just cant stand this. and i cant seem to switch it off.
