Low poly limit?
show user profile  pancake
Is there like, a limit to a low poly model, like if it's over 10k polys it's not considered low poly anymore? ------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is no international organization that enforces an official definition of "low poly." In my opinion it means anything that is designed for last-gen hardware (PS2, etc - maybe 4,000 tris per model). But I've heard people insist that "low poly" means anything that wasn't made with Z-brush.

Actually, the mythical polygon police do exist.

Anyone found using unnecessary triangles will be arrested and sent to the Hauge for crimes against geometry.

How's this for a definition - anything where each polygon is made "by hand" so to speak - i.e. models that don't use any subdivision surfaces, meshsmooth, etc.

just for your info,

example: when developping for Nintendo DS your whole 3D scene should not exceed 2400 Polys

people use 3d on the DS? i always thought it was run purely on 4 direction sprites. so the game was just a large pile of videos that display based on which buttons you press.
