Looping particle system

Hi All,
Im working on some looping animations for "sprites" for a game and we want to have some
smoke effects coming off them.
Can you recommend any links or tutorials that solve this problem?
nothing too fancy just simple parray w/ drag and wind added.

- oh one more thing, if this is not possible with the original particle system - is it possible through particle flow?

Try the curve editor to loop PF source stuff (I doubt it will work).

That or you should just be able to do it directly in the PF source edit window (I would think)..

It might be more realistic to create the particle system, find some way to collapse it all into geometry, and then loop the animated geometry.

One thing that comes to mind right off the bat is using a blob mesh for the smoke. With decent material work, you should be able to get a decent desired effect with some falloff in the opacity slot.

By now, you should realize that I have no clue what I am talking about, just pushing ideas around.

edit: If you are interested in the blob mesh thing, I could send you a base max file (2011 I think) that uses the blob mesh.. I made this-



I am sure there is some way you could perhaps use both the cloud tut and the particle system to make some super nice smoke..

yeah - I was trying to avoid learning PFlow - given our dead line but it may be necessary.

if it is for a game.. why not just code the simple particle system and use transparent smoke cloud sprites like most games?
