Another rather large accomplishment...

I've been dreaming of today for over 18 months... throw a tennis ball at the car, our system triggers and pushes a notification to your phone.

Cars should be this secure from factory... and for $149 you can fix that mistake in yours.

I'm praying to whatever gods are up there that this takes off, cause I know I feel better about my M4 being parked somewhere that I"ll get notified when someone backs into it or inevitably opens their door into it harshly.

Also, I bought an M4! Yay!

so here's the problem with your amazeballs biz idea.

if it is just a tennis ball, I got better things to do than rush out of the office/restaurant/whatever and go tell some kids to quit fucking about near my motor.
even if I did do this, that'd wind them up and they'd likely key it when I'd gone. so basically you turn something trivial into serious damage.

if it's a thief attempting a break in, sure, you can go all hero mode and storm down there. then get shot/stabbed because they're crims and they don't give a fuck about you.

that's what insurance is for mate. sometimes shit happens. insurance covers it. secure park if you want extra cover. or get a driver to watch your baby :)

where your stuff or something similar might be useful is when we get to kit mode where you can instruct your self driving car to move its ass somewhere else if problems detected at current location.

but you'll need a tesla for that, not an m4 :) as I understand it though the vehicle can do it, it's not currently legal to have the thing drive itself without a person inside so you got a regulatory issue there.

good to see you're doing well.

Yeah, this is more about people you know- opening their door into your car or backing into you.

The sensitivity of the unit is up to the owner, obviously, not everyone wants to know if a bird shits on their car, then again, some people do.

As for an actual breakin- we're working on a camera, so no need to go down there.

But thanks for, something? I'm not sure what AS.

the what is keeping it real. as you do with my stuff. as we all do with each others work and mad plans. that's the value of this place.

which is genuinely appreciated even if it is a little hard to take sometimes.

truth hurts, etc. update on our stuff soon. you'll still hate it because you're a high end raytrace guy but we've got some serious convergence happening and real-time raytrace is now an actual thing.

exciting times :)

recorded camera evidence triggered by collision detection. yeah. can see the point of that but you need it recording constantly on a loop because you're gonna probably need at least a minute or two prior to the event so you stand a chance of capturing whoever did whatever they did.

with upload to remote server via 4g/5g if vehicle is actually stolen so you still have the evidence.

gotta love sasha. who else could rhyme sturgeon into a song :)

"you'll still hate it because you're a high end raytrace guy but we've got some serious convergence happening and real-time raytrace is now an actual thing."

I'm trying to not keep working in VFX in a professional sense. So, no skin off my back.

You don't need a constant loop recording, just a really sensitive piezoelectric motion sensor to prime the camera unit into taking a couple of stills in a 360 fisheye.

As for the upload, a few images on a 3G connection is perfectly suffice, gen 2 we'll likely switch to 4G Cat M1...

...and I'd say thanks for keeping it real, but your not really uncovering any hidden stones here.

still getting a tesla. enjoy your m4 :)

insane mode, here we come.

what's 0-60 in your thing ?

you do need loop because without it you might miss something you need prior to collision event.

You're forgetting how quickly electronics function.

We can sense within 30ms of the impact, give or take a few ms. Camera trigger and start up time is short enough that we can snap a photo while contact is still active...

No, no real stones unturned.

As for the car? Who knows, I'm too busy being happy driving it.

k, so lets use your tennis ball example.

some kids walk past your car then move out of shot and throw ball at it.

so you get the event but don't get who did it cause they're out of shot.

maybe you're right and that's too contrived an example to be worth the development effort for real world use cases.

Kinda hard to be out of shot in a fisheye lens pointing downward capturing a 360, eh? (Would be mounted near the rear view mirror in most cases)

its how much more work to do it properly ? not much. you got the system in place already.

but whatever, its your product mate. do it how you want.

another example. car has front number plate but not one on the rear (illegal but folks who ram you don't tend to run street legal).

so as you don't capture before the event you don't catch the front but do the rear but that doesn't help you. or something like that. hopefully you get the point. if there is one.

a solid solution works however you approach it.

I see how this can be useful the other way around also ;)
A Bumper Car is parked blocking in another car.
Owner of other car throws a tennis ball at Bumper Car.
Bumper Car guy comes runnin'round the corner.
Other Car guy asks Bumper Car guy to kindly move his vehicler.
