Hi guys and girls.

I'm working on another piece for my portfolio now...

yep you guest it... another interior :-) Usual weapons of choice MAx and Mental Ray.

This is only my second render test, so still lots to tweak, add and change.

I'm keen to get some crits please

Thanks

reflections look a little high, especially the apple.

not a huge fan of high dof blurring like that but that's me.

Shiny apple. Magazine looks fake, too perfect. Position of coffee machine looks uncomfortable. Perhaps move it left slightly?

The rest is great. Nice render.

Perhaps you could put a little more stuff in there. Right now it looks like you comped a rendered image onto a blurred background, so it might help if there were a few more things that are at mid distance to the camera.

Image lacks a strong focal point. Right now it's dominated by the blurred background. All of the foreground elements are equally prominent. Take a look at some nice arch vis interiors to see how they compose similar shots.

Its more like a frame from an animation. This image will not sell dude. It's good as a fun shot.

Get a kitchen, fill it, render it. These shots are like ad ons.

there's certainly nothing bad about the image per se, but as Girish and Michael say, it's a something or nothing passing shot . As yet, it isn't a kitchen shot, and it certainly has no composition to talk of, especially for a port folio scene.

why not just flick the camera over 180 degrees or so, so the kitchen is in the back ground and not the lounge?

cheers for all the comments guys.

I agree re. the composition of the image. I'm going to add in some bar stools today on the far side of the counter hoping that will pull together the counter and the background abit.

Ive not actually modeled the kitchen. This was initially a lounge scene... this one:

however i couldn't get a nice shot of it, so decided to put the lounge in the background. Maybe I should change the title so it's not 'kitchen'.

Going to work on the magazine today too. at the min its just a texture on a box. Think im going to model the whole thing from scratch

thanks again for all the comments guys, much appreciated

hi all.

made a few slight changes:

* added stools
* re-positioning of stuff
* tweaked fruit material
* Re-modeled the magazine (Each page is modeled, however you can't really tell that it is). Any ideas of how to improve this?

Any other comments and crits would be great thanks.

Now that you want to stick to same shot :P why not take it a little back and a little angular and wide. This will get more of the prep table like drawers, add in a exhaust and cooking area as well. Plus you can add in some drawers on the left / right suggesting it's a camera shot.

I recently saw a thread of CgA
http://forums.cgarchitect.com/69732-kitchen.html
- Brilliant work. There is a camera angle from the kitchen looking into the living area, a super inspiration for you. He has posted some setup as well ;)

This is what am talking about..

WOW. that is an awesome render!!!

I wanted to keep this close up shot of the counter though and not have the whole image in focus. Maybe I could pull the camera back a touch and have the top of some draws ect... in shot?

Thanks for the link though... That's def given me some inspiration. Maybe once I have finished this close up, I can expand the scene

Am glad it helps.

The shots needs a kitchen feel. Imagine yourself stand in kitchen facing towards the prep-island. I am sure you see some bits of kitchen drawers. Yep, adding some drawers in the show below the kitchen top which is seen will help a lot. I would really add in some on the left or the right side. Just 1 - panels are good.

Welcome. If you are not, you got to visit CgA, it's been a mecca for me since I began Arch vis. The old gang is a massive pack of knowledge. CgA and Mf :D

Look forward.

A small update, I've pulled the camera back a touch. Also tweaked the apple material. What do you all think?

Camera better like this ?

Thanks
