Jumping from 3ds max 9 to 2016
show user profile  dcny30
My company finally caved in and got me the newest 3ds max version. I'm used to the version 9 and this is a whole new look. Almost as if I have to learn from scratch. We went with an annual subscription and a one time purchase of the vray plugin.

It took me a couple of months to get used to 3ds max 9 and a while to get used to vray. Is there a serious learning curve? I don't have the luxury of taking the time to learn.

I think the Graphite modeling tools came in with Max 10. Check those out.
There is also the ovoid spline and many, many new icons.

In fact, it's mostly new icons.

If you want to expand your modeling tool-set check out Miauu and Rappatools.

Rappatools is based on Orionflame's code which was discontinued around 2009-2010...-ish....and is being actively improved on.

Graphite tools are what used to be PolyBoost before AD bought it and glued it onto Max, apart from new icons there has been no improvements to the tool-set in 4+ years.
