Joker Sculpt
show user profile  Redturtle
Hey guys, I mocked this up and rendered it in Zbrush. Figured I'd share with you all

I'm pretty happy with it overall, I think the hair is the weakest part. Originally it was just a stand-in until I did fibermesh, but I suck at hair. Something I really need to work on.

It's okay. But I really, really don't like your material shading, it makes it look 2D. I'd love to see it with some proper sss and dramatic lighting + tonnes of shadow.

"it's either like you're all in or its a turd" lol, yeah

@herfst1 - I actually like the 2d look given the subject manner, but I could also see myself giving the render another tackle with a more realistic approach.

It doesn't have to be realistic at all to look 3d. Can use cel shading, for instance.

[edit] could also be your camera is the wrong lens. I'd make it more fish eye, if you know what I mean.

Man, I love it. Wish I could do that. I'm gonna have to disagree with herfst too. Fish eye, cell shading?! The textures are awesome!

Can't believe everyone disagrees with me. I felt exactly the same way about the skull sculpt - the sculpt is good, the texturing and shading isn't. Going for cartoon is fine, I like cartoons, but making it flat, as if it's just a drawing robs the sculpt of it's potential.

But whatever, opinions are like assholes, and I guess I'm the asshole here.

I really like it.

Ignore herfst!

Reminds me very much of American Mghee's Alice... and to be fair, the joker was initially a comic strip character. To render him otherwise would be an injustice :)

Well done, mate! I'm partially with Herfst. It has a good vibe and RedTurtle did anyway a good job. The thing I'd adjust, before the light(too flat), the skin (wrinkles too harsh) and the shaders(hair don't have volume) it's the symmetrical pose/camera position. Break it and it will pop out.

Looks great, I would also do a photoreal/real life version though...

Hey I didn't notice your guys replies until just now. Thanks for the positive feed back.

I'm definitely open to trying out different materials and render approaches, the illustrative look verses a more 3d render doesn't concern me as much as the hair though. I gotta spend more time learning and working with hair. I feel like it would really kick my work up a notch.

But yeah thanks again. I might pick this back up and make it a more complete character for my portfolio, if I do, I'll render him out a few different ways.

My critics are:

I don't see the joker facial expression, I see only the joker just waked from sleep , one min ago
I mean try to focus on the expression, plus wrinkles are simple, one on forehead, mouth angle and below the mouth,
You can add a small wrinkles.
Try to do a funny weird psycho joker because its part of his character
