Jobs in 3D modelling
show user profile  antoin_currie
Hello there,

I do some 3d modelling in my spare time.
I was introduced to it while at university and for the past couple of years I have been creating some models and generally trying to improve my skills.
It's improving slowly but surely.
My portfolio site is here:

My question to you is this, what level do you suppose I could go in at in a 3d modelling job somewhere? I'm not looking as of this moment in time because I don't believe my skills are anything like what's required, but someday..

it would most likely be entry level eh?

Vast majority of jobs I see out there require you to have worked in the industry for at least 2 years.

To be honest, I'm just worried I'm wasting my time, I do enjoy 3d modelling though, love the reward of getting results that are sometimes nice to look at, but worried in case I shouldn't really bother as it's a dead end!

You should definitely not give up, but you should also trim your portfolio page way down and only show your best work.

For me I'd keep only:
1. Missile launcher - you just need to texture it really well. Take a look at dDo
2. Excavator - I'd add some livery (decals, stickers, text), and also some dirt and scratches (again, dDo)
3. Audi R8 - Though it probably needs a lot of work (just a hunch as it's heavily cropped).

You should also show some wireframes as that's pretty important if you're wanting to be a modeller.
