Job / Career advice needed please...
show user profile  CAD Monkey
Hi Guys,

I’m hoping that someone can give me a bit of advice:

As some of you know, a few months ago I got what appeared to be my dream job working as an exhibition designer. Unfortunately the job has now turned into a living nightmare, and I need to look at my options. Without going into too much detail the setup is the least professional company I have ever worked for; bullying of staff, stupid hours for minimal pay, sales manager that has tried to threaten me physically (and was sacked from a previous position for grabbing a staff member by the throat) and an MD who thinks that the setup is fine. My line manager and I have tried to address things in the few months I’ve been there but to no avail. It’s really affecting me as a person and I’m getting more angry and frustrated almost by the day which is really screwing up my home life.

Anyway, I need to look for something else with some urgency. Ideally I do want to go back to freelance work again, but for the time being we can’t afford the risk so I need a day job. My two questions are: do I put the current job on my cv? And also, I have moved to be closer to my current job (stupidly) which has taken us quite a way away from London / South East, so do I put my current address or my parent’s address which is much closer? I don’t want to be dishonest with anyone, but at the same time I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot by people thinking I live too far away, or seeing a 4 month placement as a bad thing.

Any comments would be gratefully received and any input appreciated.

Thanks guys,

CAD Monkey

In my book lying to a prospective employer is bad and will get found out eventually. If you are willing to relocate again then say that on your CV/application then your current location shouldn't have any bearing on the decision.
I would put any experience I have on my CV, ...but then I still havent got a job.

Cheers fella!

That's pretty much what I thought so far - time to update the old CV then!

I thought you were working in Wales and had relocated? Today is a gift, and tomorrow is not a promise, so love life!

got laid off couple of months back.

There a small hope of a 3 month contract in max coming up so fingers crossed.

If you don't mind me asking, is job availability(in the UK) that bad or are you selective with your employment?

job availability in south wales is next to nothing regarding 3ds max and autocad as far as I have found. least advertised jobs anyway.

Sorry for hijacking but Grotey, what type of CAD work is you do, Architectural drawings?

Might be nothing but I might have something that could work out.
