Joan of arc tutorial
show user profile  loganf
Whew this is turning out to be pretty intense. I have the leg modeled up the the knee. When I look at the tutorial he has the model like absolutely perfect... Makes me mad and want to quit, no matter how hard I try I cant make it look as good as his :( Alright here are some screens.

How should I set it up better? I wasn't too worried about the lighting. Are you having a hard time seeing the mesh?

What exactly aren't you happy with? Maybe post up images of both the original and yours, marking points that make you go "ARRGGHHHH".

Also, realtime shadows? Me = jealous. Is that a Max 2008 feature?

lmao (@grotey and LordPanzer)

anyway, do as grotey commands, keep on going. Every model I do looks like crap in the beginning and it takes hours if not days to shape it. The good thing is the more you do it the faster a model will go from nothing to awesomeness. You'll make less mistakes out of experience and you'll be better at spotting potential and getting the maximum out of your sculpt.

Oh and just as some added encouragement; it does show that you are trying hard to make it work.

Good work ethic is king. :)

Also as seth said; dont expect things to look great after an hour or two (only the pros make great stuff in short amounts of time and its because they do it every day professionaly). It takes time. But it will work out in the end if you keep at it. :)

I did this tutorial back in 2002. Maybe I should go back and see how much better I can do now that I know what I am doing?

Alright. Spent a couple hours working on the tutorial today. Got most of the modeling for the body done. Just have to tweak all the vertices's now. Also wanted to thank everyone that told me to keep going! well here is my progress.

I used joan to make this alien I used in one of the touneys here.
I know what you mean about feeling like you've been pulling verts all day.
I wanted kind of an asexual type creature so no breasts but the butt came out great.
Sorry, don't have a view of that.
keep going cheers!

Very Nice! I find moving vertices's around is so hard because I can never get them to go right where I want them to. And there is thousands of them to move. :(

All is good. I think I am going to take a couple hour break now though.
