Painted in Photoshop with a wacom tablet, took about 4 hours give or take. First digital painting from life I've ever done. Crits welcome.

"First digital painting from life"
I'm pretty sure it's not his first digital painting...

Nice work on the bottle, but I think the environment - ie that folder thing - looks weird and flat. It's unnecessarily distracting.

Cheers,
Lisa

There's good and there's bad. I like your play with colors and values but the composition is rather poor and the perspective is...hmmm

Would have been better to set up a nice still with good light and a nice composition, do a sketch, take a few photo's and then translate it to digital using the reference material you just gathered. Computers are not sketchbooks and your composition is proof of that. You're not likely to move then around unless you have a laptop setup and even then...

cheers guys

ubik19761: digital painting is nice for me because you can just dive into the design without fighting with the medium too much. I started school this semester at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, so I just started traditional painting as well. This semester was the first time I moved oil around on a canvas, and I'm still getting the hang out it.

preciousSTONE: My composition was sort of the best I could setup in my bedroom at 2AM yesterday ;) The yellow might be distracting, but it tossed colors around and provided some contrast, so it did what I was looking for. This was more of a technical study than a personal expression of any sort.

Previous to my whiskey bottle digital painting I've only done a few weird paintings like the one below. I'm in school now to gain a different perspective on representational art to make my digital art stronger.

what i find interesting is that you'v clearly taken the time to render the glass carefully..but then rushed everything else, including the label, the lower half of the bottle...and general perspective in the piece (its very confusing). I think its great for an early draft, and you might want to continue working on it. But it nowhere near finished. the perpsective is all over the place.

the second piece i like :)
