(currently two questions<3)

I've noticed that I keep flooding this forum with new questions, tiny questions, so I've decided to create my own little page here and I'll ask any and all questions here, if I can. If it doesn't work, meaning if people doing open this because of the reply count going up, I'll go back to making a new message per question, but I hope this'll work! ^^

Question:

I'm going to make basically a small (SMALL... like 4 yards in diameter) island, surrounded by a small mote of water, surrounded by more land.. Sort of a swampy look, but it's going to be all foggy and super awesome n stuff.

I was wondering, how do I make it so that the edge of the water looks like it's being impacted by the land? And not just /cutting/ into the land?

You know like small white ripples--almost waves

SORRY I FORGOT IT WAS CAPS LOCK FRIDAY :X

YES THIS IS FOR A STILL IMAGE, THOUGH IF THE PROCESS IS NEAR SIMILAR I'D LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO DO IT FOR ANIMATION AS WELL SO I COULD TOY AROUND WITH THAT--BUT STILL IMAGE DOES TAKE PRECEDENCE ATM ^^

On top of the water thing above, I need to create a sort of dirty ground, literally 'dirt'y ground. Any tips? I want to have the ground be noisy, and I've applied hair on it to make it look like grass spattered here and there, but I don't know how to make the actual plane look like dirt with some erm.. noise

Get a good dirt texture. Make a bump map in Photoshop® or equivalent from the dirt texture. Use this as either a bump map or displacement map (or both).

For noise, you can add a noise modifier, if you want random lumps. You can use multiple noise modifiers to provide different levels of noise, etc.

Oh and the render looks exactly like that, except the color is more of a beige sorta deal.

GO WILD, SCULPT TEH BARK THEN BAKE A NORMAL MAP OR IS THAT GOING TOO FAR ?

(AND PROBABLY A BIT MUCH FOR A NOOB)

DROP A BASIC WOOD EFFECT DIFFUSE ON THAT TO GO A STEP FORWARDS.

Considering I don't even know what you're talking about, then yes it probably is too much for a 'noob' :P
