so basically, i've been playing with 3d in general all day today, except for 2.5 hours spent on a movie and 1 hour spent in the garage, and as usual, i can NOT focus on one thing, so i have 2 projects going. one is a little octopus thing, which is almost done, i just need advice on how to make it's suction cups, and yes, i did figure out the rigging problem, and then my other project is dramatically bigger! while doing my math homework (which took 5 minutes) i thought of a design for a superhero, so now i'm also just changing a base character i downloaded so that he fits what i want him to be like, and my question for him is how to make a suit (like a gucci, is that what they're called? the italian ones)

so are there any plug-ins or things in max for simply making clothing like this? or would it have to be modelled?

f1 > cloth

It's a modifier, basically you model the suit and then apply the modifier to make it react to a character.
IMO you should forget about simulated realistic cloth and just model/texture it.

to change the length of the bones of biped. You have to put the biped in 'figure' mode. The simply scale the bones as you wish. It's one on the icons in the biped tab. Think of the top of my head its a little stick man type figure with a red dot possibly.

[edit] Make sure you turn figure mode off once your done!

all right i got the biped fitting him well now, still not remotely getting the suit though. i have shoes for him now though, working on getting them to fit his feet just right.

also, how exactly do i attach the biped to him? do i just use attach in edit poly? or do i have to do skinning? if so, can somebody give a brief description of where to start on that or point to a tutorial for it?

all right, i've got the bones the right size, you can ignore the last post because i figured out skinning, and now i have a skinning question! on my right forearm bone's envelope, there is a small patch of skin on the upper arm's area that's outside the envelope bounds thing, and i don't know how it got there, and it REALLY messes up the model when i move that bone. any ideas as to how it got there? i can't figure out how to "arbitrarily decide which vertexes you want to affect" (straight out of the max help files) I'll be working on his hair while i wait for an answer, as after that i have skinning done and can begin building my first walk cycle. god doing everything else on a downloaded base model is fun.... i should really finish mine from the MDB tutorial though.

edit: i got it fixed by just removing that bone and putting it back in, but i'd still like to know what my problem was.

edit2: where the hell is the cuticle? i swear my skinning mod has bones that don't exist in it....

edit3:nevermind i found it... they should make adjacent bones different colors...

done with rigging completely, done with all his body features, now i'm working on his clothes. how can i get a leather texture for his shoes? black shiny leather, like lawyers wear. will post an image of the parts of him i need help with and the parts i'm proud of (hold the sex jokes) after i texture.

how can i make/find a good skin texture? because just yellowish white is not good.

obviously, i need a better skin texture. and shoe texture. hold the jokes about his crotch by the way, the perfect replica model that was there seemed unneccesary.

edit: just noticed the eye sticking through the eyelid a tiny bit there. will fix

edit2: when trying to make him sit down to show that he's rigged, i discovered he's only rigged well enough to walk. rotating the shoulder in any way except up down doesn't work, and the head only works well enough to look and nod. finally, his spine is all messed up. besides those problems though, he works. in otherwords, his legs work.

edit3:yes i know, making eyes and stuff isn't much, but i'm really just doing this to try and learn the clothe modifier and how skinning even works. at least his hands and feet are working.

edit:and to ktonne, this isn't my model of the body. i decided after tryiing to make a base character myself 6 times to just download one and see if i could rig it and give it hair and clothes.

need an unsmoothed wireframe to be able to crit the meshflow really
