Is there any material lister in 3ds max?
show user profile  Alex910
I have a multi-groups scene that has many materials and I want count them all. Just like Light Lister counts all the lights in the scene, is there something for materials? Scripts/tools?

Thanks!

You can see a list of materials in the scene:

2 ways...

Install Outliner and use the Material Mode, gives you a list of all scene materials..

Scripspot is the Max equivalent of Google ;) ...ie: Scriptspot is your friend :)

lol, "A material with the same name exists in the scene", hit cancel, click in the name area of material editor, roll fingers randomly across keyboard, I generally hit fghk, second favourite is the finger swipe asdfghjl :)

Lol, material names that look like secure passwords.

Haha, I saw error's comment about liking Defaultfghk, and I was like, "Shit, never seen that one before," and was trying to work out what the fghk stood for... then I saw the material list posted before. Think I'll stop reading threads in reverse from now on.

Defaultfgh is a three finger roll, same thing happens with models too, I always put off the renaming until the very end, then generally can't be arsed doing it, folder organisation is/was just as chaotic.
Every time I return to a project it's a nightmare tracking down what the hell I was doing...which is why I'm tying to get organized :)

@Alex910

The quickest way I know of to find out how many mats are in a scene is by using MaxAssistant

I wish the guys who make these "All in One" scripts would separate all the functions into macros.

... and they wouldn't package their scripts as an MSE in an EXE so I can't strip out just the bits I want.
