Is there a 3DS Max, Autocad live link?
show user profile  jpedleham
Sometimes im working with an architectural working drawing and it changes daily. But i work in parallel in 3d trying to replicate their layouts with 3d fixtures. Im wondering if its possible to live link max and cad so that if they move a cad block, when i open up my max file the cad will be updated and the 3d fixture will move to the location of the updated cad block?

Go to "File"\"Manage Links"

or, if you don't have a file menu showing

Click on the big stupid Max logo at the top left and choose "import", "Link AutoCAD"

That wont re-layout the models within max though will it? Itll just shift about the cad blocks?

Within Max, you can select the AutoCAD blocks and add a "Substitute" modifier. Within that modifier choose your 3D blocks. Then you should be good to go. If you update your CAD file the Max representation will then update.

Its a bit clumsy, but if you work carefully it should function.
