Introducing the Apple - iRoom
show user profile  keattchb
Hey guys again,

Needed a smallish project to keep me occupied during the last week and was thinking about a theme. My amazing girlfriend bought me a "Architectural Rendering with 3ds max and Vray" book for xmas (pretty cool i reckon) and so i sat down for hours and absorbed the lot. Im an Apple fan and love their products and methodology and thought, what if I put the 2 together. Anyway, heres what i came up with, the Apple (inspired) iRoom! Its a bit of a laugh, nothing serious but it interested me as a little project. Instead of setting up the lighting up and hoping that it all came together with what ever result i got, i wanted to learn lighting better and set a story, so. Picture coming home from a busy day at the office in a big city, and returning to your very own, dimly lit, minimalistic, apple (inspired) apartment overlooking the city.

Feel free to crit, i can see some errors that need patching like notching up the iterations on the rug. But since rendering times can be so massive, i thought id wait and get your opinions and add them to the scene as i go

they should make an electric car called the iVoom.

looks nice enough, if you want to sleep in corporate land.

reflections are too high on the floor.

Modelling looks pretty good from what I can see, but as with so many of these type of things at the moment I don't get what makes it an 'i-room' apart from the apple logo on the wall?

The rug needs smoothing and the floor looks too shiny to me. You've got what looks like a weird lighting effect behind the curtain?

What render engine are you using?

Overal I would just say scrap the whole apple i-room thing, it doesn't work as a style as most of the stuff looks straight out of a Dwell catalogue and I can't see anything that truly ties it in as apple.

sorry if that sounds harsh but it is a great start and the lighting looks ok (the i-this, i-that just gets to me - like calling a push chair for kids iCandy - WTF??)

cheers,

Stewart

Today is a gift, and tomorrow is not a promise, so love life!

I saw some Apple lawyers wandering around here earlier. They looked bored. Best be careful...

You know, I don't think an Apple product would have a wood floor. It would be some awesome glowing white material that changes color with the time of day or something. Also the carpet has visible poly edges.

Looks pretty ok other than that.

(I forgot to crit it properly before)

I hate apple fan boys. So I won't say anything constructive.

There was talk about an Apple car one day, but i think these rumour sites can get a bit carried away! Yep corporate land is what i was going for Advanced Software. Im going to start with the floor reflections first i think and bring down the glossyness. Im going to lose the amb light under the bed, i was going for a glow but looking at it now i think it looks crap. I think thats the trouble, after staring at the screen for so long its hard to see where its going.

I agree CAD Monkey with the reflections, im going to take the glass effect away and apply a more blurry effect. Im using V-ray 1.5 for the rendering. I see what you mean about Dwells, i love it, i didnt even know they existed! Noo its not harsh, this site would be completely pointless if everyone feedback was "amazing, good, well done" without any constructive crit, your comments very welcome :). I looked on the Apple site at their branding, colours they use, products they sell and shapes/form etc and came up with my own interpretation of what i thought an Apple room could look like, some people might have a different interpretation but this is what i was seeing. Lots of glossy whites and blacks (iphones, ipods etc) and form taken from similar products that are create from very primitive shapes. I know what you mean about the i-this, i-that. It gets on my nerves to, but i cant help but love the products they sell! :)

Cheers Bolteon, where could it use some work??

Haha Nick :p

Bored? their not bored, they are all busy raping Samsung atm :D. Everything was created by me, it worked out well as i learnt a new feature, i created my Own copy of the logo in illustrator and exported to max as a spline, then surfaced and extruded

I got my girl friend the newest apple product for Christmas. She is now my ex-girlfriend. Apparently an I-Ron isn't cool.

well, if your aiming for realism; there's a bevy of things from lighting to materials to models and scale that could use your attention.

just a matter of what your goal is.

Well tbh aside from the giant apple logo and text on the bed there isnt much to suggest that we're dealing with iRoom.

I'd like to see a round hole in the wall with stacks of dollars for firewood (iFireplace), in front of it spherical chairs that you cant sit in because the seats are on the inside (iChair) and Bill Gates'es still bleeding pelt in the middle as a rug (iRug)

It's ugly and it's white, that's Apple alright! (badum tsss)

To stay on a constructive side: more faces in the carpet, less faces in the tables, less shine in the floor

Its a monstrosity..............make it die !!

edit: First glances, the wooden floor doesn't seem to fit the aesthetic of the rest of the room. There doesn't seem much point having the 2 tv's where you currently have them, most people would want to see them from the bed.

Render wise, there's white light on the ceiling and floor from the window, but its night outside, maybe try a really rich blue or something, or swap the piccy to a day one. If you're going to go really minimal on this, you'd need to make all the materials excellent. Look at some references for floors etc, analyse all the little details and replicate them etc.

Just for competitive balance and in no way being petty or stupid, I present you my apple collection, my i-pod, i-chuck and the very pleasing, suave looking i-poo. :)
