Installing scripts and plugins?
show user profile  mike_renouf
can anyone point me in the direction of a tutorial describing how to install maxscripts in the proper places? I've come across an interesting set of tools for mentalray and I'm really stumped as to how to run them. The description given in the download isn't great and I've no desire to screw up my max installation directories! Many thanks :)

Here's the download I'm looking at installing:

It contains .ms .mcr and .mse files to name but a few.

looks like you just need to run the exe file and point it to the max root directory. other than that script go in the scripts folder and plugins go in the plugins folder , simple as that most of the time :)

scripts (.ms, .mcr) usually go here 3dsmax*/UI/Macroscripts or 3ds,ax*/Scripts

but .mse is encrypted and i think you drag it inside and .mzp also.

Thanks for the tips.

I got the script installed and working relatively easily as it turns out - the installer that was provided with the download did the trick perfectly. I just needed to have a bit of courage in this instance because it worked without incident and didn't shotgun files all over the place the way I had feared.

For anyone using mentalRay I'd certainly recommend trying out the free ShaderUtils program, though it does require a good understanding of the mentalray shaders in the first place to get the most from it.
