Citizens of earth, your attention please.

An asteroid will come within 8000 miles of the planet on Monday.

Shouldn't be a problem, but it will drop within the GPS satellite orbit, so there's always the possibility of a nice game of space billiards.

(path of asteroid from POV of the asteroid itself)

don't worry guise - if that anim's right, you'll only need to duck if you're a really tall penguin.

Says in that link it`d prob explode in the atmosphere if it came at us. Be interesting with all those satellites flying around tho..

So we won`t see anything from the UK right?

What am I - Brian Cox ?

Can't see why you would see anything - it's a fairly small lump of rock 8000 miles up.

Hopefully the satellites have sufficient propulsion to get out of the way if necessary.

What am I - Brian Cox ?

I think in normal circumstances it`d be safe to assume that, because you posted a thread about it, that you are an internationally renowned expert on the subject..

No, Coxy's at Glasto so you have to make do with my uninformed mumbling.

I think we should stop it in geostationary orbit & use it as an anchor for a space elevator, but what do I know ?

i predict its going to graze a secret cold war tactical nuke launcher platform causing it to drop down from its orbit and decimate the planet triggering a nuclear winter and global warming at the same time

dinosaurs ?

just a figment of your deranged imagination.

adam & eve materialized out of thin air six thousand years ago.

But I thought the earth was created out of thin air only 4 thousand years ago :S

They corrected that. A "God" year is many, many times longer than a human year (now).
Dinosaur bones went from not existing, to being placed there by god to being dinosaur bones.
Also, they got rid of limbo, claim that the moon emits light and can choose which bits of their magic book to believe.

This is why I don't subscribe to any of it.
