Importing Characters

Whenever I try to import two characters (rigged etc) into a scene the second one always explodes into mesh salad. How do I prevent this? I tried exporting as other filetypes but that doesn't work either.

are you importing or merging? biped or bones? do you have any control scripts without strict reference dependencies?

personally i only work with bones and as long as i make sure the scales are correct and all my scripts have a unique target merging alway works fine.

So far they are only rigged with CAT. I tried merge and import, neither works. I don't know what control scripts are. I'm using only what Max has to offer, no plug-ins or such.
