| Add Image To Plane - Blank Image |

Hey guys!
I'm working on 3D modeling using a reference image. The weird thing is, if I load a presaved tutorial files, it comes preloaded with the bitmaped image as a material. Adding this to a plane works no problem.
But if I follow the basic steps that it suggests, to add my own image, some how it doesn't work. Basic steps: -Add plane to view port. -Adjust size to pixel size of image -length and width segs to 1 -move to 0 axis - open material editor. -binn parameters color to 100 -click the box next to diffuse -double click bitmap - select image - add material to selection
anyways. after doing that the whole plane turns white. If I lower the color value it goes to grey. But no image whatsoever is showing up.
The only workaround I have found was to get a plane the same size as an image, then drag the image file from an open folder to the plane. this works, But results in a low resolution of the original.
Can anyone help me solve these two issues? 1. Why can I use the bitmapped materials with images from a presaved tutorial, but not create my own? How do I create my own that will work? 2.How do I solve the resolution issue when I drag and drop an image from a folder to a plane?
Thanks in advance

UPDATE.... I found a solution to the blank page.. I had to turn on "show standard map in viewport"
I still have an issue with the image being of low quality.
Any1 have a solution to getting better quality image on the plane?
