Image motion blur wildly inconsistent between frames
show user profile  magarlick
Does anybody know why this is happening? I have applied image motion blur to my scene. I have ensured that the Enable button is ticked in each object's properties dialogue, and that is is always set to Image. When I render, the blur is totally inconsistent from one frame to the next. Almost as if the camera is being buffeted from side to side, which it is not. It is following a very smooth NURMS curve. The effect of this inconsistency is that the animation 'shimmer' when it's played back.

Here are some frames:

I have tried changing the blur multiplier in the objects' properties; changing the Duration (frame) parameter in the Render Setup dialogue. Nothing works. I have tried applying the bur as a render effect instead. Same result.

Any ideas? If this cannot be solved, how can I get a blur using another solution? I've looked into adding blur as a Scene Event in Video Post. Here the blur is consistent from frame to frame, but it has to render each frame several times to smooth out the blur, and I just do not have the time. The frames take ages to render once, as they are.

Thanks all.

M.

I found out why it's happening. The 'Constant Velocity' box is checked in the Path Parameters rollout of the path constraint. If it's unchecked the blur is consistent between frames. So now I have to rework my path.

I hate Max sometimes. :-(
