IK rigging of drafting table model. HELP PLEASE!!!
I need major help. I have an assignment where I have to create a drafting table that uses IK. Basically, I want the vertical ruler to slide back and forth while moving up and down with the horizontal ruler on the table surface. There are lots of IK tutorials in my textbook and online, but they tend to deal with rotational stuff and bone rigging. I am soo incredibly stuck and am a newbie at 3DS Max. I'm sure this is a simple thing to do...is there a pro that could tell me how to set this up step-by-step please???

IK? For that? That seems... implausible, at best. Wire parameters ought to work well enough, and scripting would work nicely (because there's no such thing as too much overkill ;).
Specialty: Non-organic modelling and effects.
Setup: 3D Studio 2010 with finalRender.
Rig: No, no I can't.

Yeah just link the z axis of the horizontal ruler to the z axis (or whatever one works) of the vertical ruler that way only the z movement of the vertical will affect the other.
to do this link the horizontal to the vertical and uncheck the 2 appropriate axes in the heirarchy tab (link info section, 'inherit' heading)
