Idea for a small fun challenge

Since there were some mentioning of another tourney or breach, I had an idea of my own, I think it's a bit smaller so it should be easier to do...

It is, unlike tourney and breach, team based. Theme and rules are given, but people work in teams. And there are 2 ways of doing it that I thought of:

1. An object is decided to be made. People in the team are all given to do one step of the modeling process. One person models, another unwraps, another textures.... It's passed up the ladder till render. (for complete chaos to be made, peopleare assigned to their weak point steps and are forbidden to change anything person before them did

2. A scene is decided to be made and we play a "3d visualization team gig", probably in a bit longer period, and I have no idea what a standard workflow for this is, so I won't say anything further

I actually like this idea. It forces all participants to learn their weaknesses. I doubt the end result will look that great though. I suggest a two round affair. One where you work your weakness, then the next you work your strength.

Not feeling it. I like the idea of roles... but seperating actual elements that a particualr artist would see to as a whole is a bit silly. ie, Modelling, Unrwapping and Texturing is often just one job, for one guy. Unwrapping and Texturing will definitely need to be put together, lest the model is uber basic.

i like this idea, but it needs a bit of work. how about-
0) concepting (same for all teams, perhaps all participents could submit a concept and then vote on which to go with)
1) modelling
2) texturing (inc unwrap)
3) lighting and render setup

so teams of 3 or 4 ppl and perhaps 2 weeks each and after each step the max file is passed on.

if anyone else is interested please post up ideas so we can get this show on the road :)

at school for footbal teams, we would get captains to walk towards each other one step at a time whoever ended up stepping on the others feet would get first pick

A team maxforums challenge would be a good idea in general, I think - but more along the lines of collaborating on a scene rather than a single model; one person does a character, the other does an environment for the character, for example.
edit in otherwords like horizon's idea #2

edit I just had an idea for picking teams - we could use a forum poll to select 2 captains, and then the captains take turns picking team members. Flip a coin to decide who picks first.

the problem to the colabrative work is if someone can't finish or falls behind. Looking at the tournament, it happens alot. Since there is nothing really at stake, it is easy to say you'll do it later. I think it will end with the situation that someone bails or gets behind and things can't get done. I like the small engine challenge like grotey said (not the engine though).
