I'm a giant noob.
show user profile  Dave
I think I've hit old age. I started today with a clear goal of something that I wanted to do, only to find that I actually don't remember how to do it. I've tried googling but at this point I'm just searching with vague queries.

Simple explanation of what I want:
I have a plane with many segments. And I would like to move a sphere over it, having the plane deform to the shape of the sphere, but returning to its original state when the sphere is not over a group of polys. Like, err... like a mouse running underneath a carpet.

I know it's simple! I've done it before, but I just can't remember what tools/modifiers I need to be using. I'm 95% sure it isn't cloth, it was something a lot more easier to work with than cloth.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

You can do that with the displace modifier/spacewarps.

Vol.Select sounds familiar! Cheers muchos, I will give it a whirl very shortly.

@FX: I did actually do this (I rarely use F1, admittedly). but I sat there, fingers poised over the keyboard for a good 12 seconds thinking about what to even look up. SO SHUT YOUR PRETTY LITTLE MOUTH BEFORE I COME OVER THERE AND KISS IT.

Edit
@Octopuzzy, oh interesting. I'll investigate if vol.select annoys me.

Puckered up and ready sweetie :

I had a similar scenario a few months a go, I ended up using animated FFD's (which can be a pain in the ass to control / fine tune.)

This looks an easier method, I never got round to buying and trying:

Now it's doing my head in, I'm sure there's a similar free version kicking around :/

My brain farts far too regular for my liking too.

That's pretty lovely, well worth the 18 euros I reckon. Cheers!

Ruh oh, has anyone used the bezier attractor before? I get constant crashes. I've emailed the hocuspocus dudes about it, but I've already lost faith.

Well that can't be right STRAT, I've got a tiiiiiny pecker.

In response to my previous comment:

DO NOT RUN 3DS MAX IN ADMINISTRATOR MODE.

Not only does this disable the drag/drop feature of opening max files/scripts/etc. It makes this bezier attractor script straight up not work.
