How would you model this image?

Detail isn't that important but I'd like to get it fairly accurate

I would setup reference images, start with a box, convert to poly, extrude/add edges where needed and that's pretty much it...good luck

Yeah, no lofts, I couldn't resist the urge to try this...

Started with box, placed segments accordingly

Applied symmetry modifier after extruding some pieces (extruded faces)

moved some verts around using edge constraints

extruded faces for handle and bridged with base piece

made sure my segments had the layout for the handle hole

there you go, not so detailed...

tools used: extrude face, bridge edges, insert edges (graphite tools), symmetry

Modeling an image ain't so tough. Just make a plane with the same proportions as the picture and slap on the picture as a texture.
Voila! A 3D image.

what rough polycount you going for on this? the method shown relies heavily on meshsmooth rounding things off
hopefully you have more ref than you're showing

incidently- the grip and the top are rounded

As much as I try to extrude and constrain a face it always seems to go off on its own direction. I tried the local, view and screen reference coordinate system and I can't seem to keep the friiggin finger guard thing going straight. Just when I think I got it I rotate the view and see that it went left...F!#$!

How do I put that eyelet in?

I also tried to use soft selection but it wouldn't work

Yeah, sounds like your learning a new piece of software, which can be frustrating depending on where you set your expectations.

You can roate, scale, and move the face after you extrude, don't worry if it extrudes in a crazy direction, just fix it later.

Everything I created was with extruding faces and then just moving vertices. If you don't like your model now, start over, you'll get it. I can't see why you would use soft selection on this but usually if it's not working that means you need to adjust your falloff settings.

I used soft selection to move the corner verts of the gun butt over hoping to drag the surrounding geometry
