How to, surface?
show user profile  LeonardoGarza
From a helix, which was mirrored, how can I make a surface so then I can add shell modifier.

But still are just the borders, I tought making cap holes. But the thing is that I want a solid surface, not having just the caps and the interior is an empty space.

that means your vertices aren't properly joined...

but.

that's not going to give you a "solid" object... max doesn't work like that for the most part.

Sorry, your wording is strange. I think you mean you want a solid object? If so...

Go to border mode, select a border and press "cap." Then go to vertex mode and press "cut" and try to cut the surface into poly's.

Maybe I have to make a single object the helix with his mirror, cause if not. It will make 2 surfaces. And i dont know how to make a mirror and its original a single object.

Should I make a mirror, but not as a modifier. So I can weld vertices and then add a cap modifier?

Convert one object to Editable Spline (if you haven't done that), click "attach" and select the other half. You then need to select the edges of each mirrored half and weld the vertices.

Thanks to both of you! You help me alot. So I have this last question, I already weld the mirror and now have it as a single object. Which will be the best way to cut, remove the upper part of the cone, as if the mirror object is the limit. Should I extrude and then boolean? Cause making and extrude you can se the surface isnt touching all that i want to cut.

Isnt there a way I have just the surface without extruding, and cutting as a limit, and all the upper part will be removed automatically?

what you really want is a cad program to do this but probolean (modifier panel) will help you out in this case.

That's the problem with helix's, they're always going to be messy to cut off. The quickest way is to use quickslice. You're going to have to make sure you retopologise to only have poly's after cutting (if you want to turbosmooth later).

[edit] Bloody hell, Bolteon, you're always beating me to the draw. :) And with better answers too.

I search slice command, but I notice it doesnt lend me to select an object as the slice section.

How can I do this, and does the helix should have a cap or extrude so it can be selected? Or it can be just as a spline as I have it right now?

beating you to the punch doesn't mean much if the advice is ignored... :-)
