How to set up vray?
show user profile  jakeywunder
I downloaded vray_demo_23001_max2012_x64... And I try to run it and it just doesn't work..

Meaning it doesn't show up in my autodesk.. Could this be because I'm running 3ds max 2013?

If so, can someone give me a step by step process to setting up vray? I keep finding cool tutorials that require vray, and I'm trying to get to do this water in my glass of wine sorta deal but every tutorial I find says vray on it and I waaaant ittt D:

it should come up when you click on the production rendering button (main settings for rendering; at the bottom).

then either you need to wait till the 2013 demo is out; or double check your installation proceedure (if in case that the 2012 demo is compatible with the 2013 version).

//edit

Aye check OP I thought that might be it. I thought I read on the website that vray 2.0 was 3ds max 2013 compatible

then try manually installing it... there's instructions for that too. that or at least just point the installer to the appropriate folders.

Aye I tried that and I got some errors. Could you point me to the exact instructions for the installation? I removed all vray folders from my machine and am going to start from scratch. Vray 2.30.01 x64 is compatible with 3ds Max 2013. I'm just doing it wrong *sob*

Okay so this is a screenshot of what I'm at right now:

As you can see, it wants to do:

V-Ray for 3ds Max additional files:
C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\3dsmax 2012 for x64

and

V-ray RT additional Files:
C:\Program Files\Chaos Group\V-Ray\RT for 3dsmax 2012 for x64

I've seen screenshots and I think it's not working because it should be saved to a '3ds max 2013 for x64' file... But I don't have that on my machine anywhere.. How do I get that =[

Switch to top view and go to the create menu > systems > daylight system. Now click and drag a daylight in the center of your scene.
Now we need to change the settings of the Max daylight system so that it uses a VRaySun to light our scene. Select the daylight system and in the modify panel select VRaySun from the Sunlight dropdown menu. Accept the request to automatically add a VRaySky environment map. We will be using the automatically created VRaySky environment map to light the scene, so we also need to disable the Skylight. Select from the Skylight dropdown menu.
