How to improve my tree? (pic inside)
show user profile  dantaeuk
Photobucket

not finished yet im going to make more ranches but this is the way i have currently done my tree, i have seen tutorials and all thier trees are just as crude as this (before the leafs go on). some wanted me to copy and paste segments and just put them inside other branches but shouldent it all be one mesh with everything welded?

so the way i have done it is to swift loop around a branch 3 times, play around with the verts to make a circle then extrude, is this the best way to do it? rinse and repeat getting smaller every time?

any tips?

any modifiers i can use?

need advice thanks!

Head over to Scriptspot and there are a handful of free tree generation scripts you can use. In my humble opinion that is the far easiest way to go. You could of course poly-model something more intricate, gnarled or knotted - but it all depends on what the end product needs to be and how much time you are willing to throw into it.

Edit
If you want to go batshit crazy, I recommend sculpting the tree and re-topologising.

how do I get all those options under freeform? For some reason I just have a icon that lets me either:
load brush settings - when clicked i can only chose default and nothing happens.
save vrush setting
set all settings to default

confused :S

also will you upload that vid of you making your tree?

thanks

You need to be in Edit Poly on a selected object. You may need also need to be in [sub-object] Face mode, don't quote me on that though. The graphite menu is context sensitive, sort've. If nothing is showing, you're in the wrong selection "mode"

Cool vid, Silard. I've never bothered using the ribbon as it always got in the way. I had a quick go of using the paint feature and got some crappy shrubs really quickly. Will redo them but I'm pretty excited with this new skill. Thanks.

@Herfst1 , thanks , but for this what you did . Better to use Scatter and not the ObjecrPaint tool .

Okay, will have to look up the what/where/how's of scatter-brushing and give it a go. I was able to get a pretty nice result with the paint though.

[EDIT] OOPS, FORGOT IT WAS CAPSLOCK FRIDAY.

OKAY, WILL HAVE TO LOOK UP THE WHAT/WHERE/HOW'S OF SCATTER-BRUSHING AND GIVE IT A GO. I WAS ABLE TO GET A PRETTY NICE RESULT WITH THE PAINT THOUGH.
