How many polys?
show user profile  Nanne
How many polys (or does it spell 'polies'?) do you think is a good number to keep on a human character for a modern game?

Either 23 or 42 depending on you geek persuasion.

Depends on the situation Nanne. Game engines vary greatly in terms of power and ability.

Nintendo DS: < 800
PSP: < 2500

FPS: 3000-7000
3rd Person: 2500-5000
RTS: 400-2000
Sports Game: 2000-6000
Cell shaded: 1500-2500

Off the top of the head, and these are completely debatable. If you are doing this for a portfolio, do 1 500 poly guy, 1 2500 poly guy, 1 7000 poly guy. More info would be nice.

Well, I am doing this low-poly character just to try out some rigging, skinning and animation in Max. Only done it in Maya in school before. So I showed it to my friend at DICE (Battlefield series) and he told me that the characters in Battlefield: Bad Company to PS3 and XBOX360 has about 2000 triangles including equipment and all. My low poly character has about 1800 quads and I think that is very few, so this is why I'm asking.

Ow, and thanks for that portfolio tip :)
