How do i make something look old and used
show user profile  ISZZ
i have a statue and i want to give it the appearance that it is a bit old and that the stone is missing in some spots is there a quick way to do this or do i have to go in select sections and warp and shift them or is there some shortcut i can use?

short answer no. making something old and dirty is a bit of an art in itself, but in the end it just takes a little common sense and keen observation. step one is to google image search some old statues and take note of the appropriate weathering, eg bird poop, moss, chips, cracks, dust, dirt, erosion, broken parts etc etc

a very quick way would be to use boolean to cut the right shaped chunks out of your model, but wear a charm and spit every minute or so as using boolean causes bad luck.

if you want it to look good, unwrap your model, texture parts where it doesnt shine, parts which look faded, dirty, etc and always check back to your image references for ideas.

hope this helps :)

He who says it cannot be done is interrupting the man doing it.

F1 - then search boolean. I'd seriously not advise using boolean for this. It can get you into very bad habits, and really mesh up your mesh.

Search for some tutorials on UVW's, unwrapping, mix maps and texturing. You'll get much better results.

Download and install Sculptris from here: http://www.sculptris.com/
Export the statue from max as .obj.
Import in Sculptris.
Play :)
