I was thinking of a simple challenge, a learning experience! a good times!! :D

The idea is to have a micro vfx shot of anything yah want, but the time is set to 10 seconds, 30 seconds max time. We have to follow the vfx pipeline structure, like, pre-production, storyboarding, etc etc.. post each step leading to the final result ;D

What do yah all think about that idea?

10 seconds total, you have to story board in about 2 seconds, shoot for 5 and post for 3. Starting now.

Sounds reasonable, I've had worse deadlines.

LOL opps! yeah shoulda been more uhh in detail :D

I meant in time as in animation, the length of the shot.

I just wanted to start an event for the new people out there to show them how a pipline is followed within the vfx world :)

I want to do this as well... but I have zero experience with the pipeline. Maybe a quick cheat-sheet on the process (plus tips and tricks) would be motivational.

[edit] or even a subject, e.g. "rotten apple" or something like that.

between work and new video games ive been lazy.. luckily rendering at work recently gives me downtime, so i've decided to get a start on my vfx shot - here's how I typically approach any project

step 1 - brain storming. it might help to grab some paper (or a white board) or notepad and start recording some ideas.

last week I started working on a fantasy type altar (think forest, doomy), so im going to do something around that

My idea after brainstorming is a close up shot of a mushroom within an alien'esk forest. It's a good idea to storyboard right now - Im deciding to not do that because i don't plan on having any camera moves.. essentially its this

(this is what i picture when I think about my shot)
- close up of an alien-like mushroom in a forest: in the background we can see a sun passing by the trees(timelapse) - godrays help show the forest is moist with fog, some of which is clearly rolling across the ground. Our mushroom is emitting energy (particle effect) that rises into the air, and worm-like creatures inch along the ground searching for food

*** That's the grand idea, but it could easily change since there is a lot happening here and this is meant to be a (quick?) exercise -- i may end up only making the mushroom

step 2: gather references (camera angles / interesting shapes / lighting)

here are the references i gathered while brainstorming and developing my idea




step 3 for me will be to gray-box the scene in max. I will determine scale of my objects etc. I would also like to get a nice lighting solution done now, if only to make it a bit easier farther down the line.

i will hold off here since im headed home and havn't started gray boxing yet, but for anyone stuck on ideas hopefully this helps

*edit* would be cool to see how everyone else approaches their shots!

I may have over-thought that...

I was at work and thought 'oh this would be cool...' and started brainstorming: I was in the boat of waiting for a topic until I re-read the original proposal

so, are we all making w/e we want, or are there base guidelines, like a video backplate is needed, etc?

if we are all working from 1 topic, I think a "rotting apple" has a lot of difficult things to try and overcome and could be cool... not really sure. im cool with trying anything really

MDB? more guidance? or r we just running with w/e
