Horrible problem with look at constraint
show user profile  9krausec
Hello everyone! I have a very simple hydrolic rig on a door that is composed of two look at constraints. They work fine until the door is open (hydrolic rig rotated) then the hydrolic parts get all distorted, unaligned and funky lookin. I will post a Jing a Jang if it helps.

What could be causing this? How could I fix it?

It did not work. I unlinked everything. Converted everything to Editable Poly, reset Xform, Linked and put a look at constraint on one hydro. It is still warping. Another jing close up (smaller vid this time around)..

No I am not using dummies. What I am doing is this....

long vid of 11.4 MB so watch out! (but it explains my setup completely, or so I think)

tried it with dummies... All I did was create the dummies and used them in place of the objects pivot point which really didn't make a difference, unless you were referencing to another way of rigging hydros with dummies this solution didn't work.

Thanks for the response though. If you have any more ideas, keep them coming!

ah - it's not warping, it's just rotating.

Just make sure the axis is correct on the base of the object (Z is up), and choose the up-vector (up-node) for the lookat to be a node (un-check world) and select the base object.

That should do it.

I thought I would just be cool and do it full res (sarcasm). No, actually I don't know crap about jing. How do you change the resolution? How do you implant jing videos into your post? What is the standard resolution that people use? I am sorry I don't sit around all day and play with my jingaling.
