Hole in a cylinder

Hi guys, I wanna make a hole in 18+ sided cylinder and the cylinder which will make a hole should be 14+ and no turbosmooth, because i am going to use smoothing groups, i tried using cut tool and boolean, bending a plane but nothing worked, i think it is the edges amount which i am doing wrong.

that's what i am making the base glass cylinder and the top container

You tried this method ? Why does one have to 18 sided and one 16 ?, make them both the same....no-ones going to know ;)

The following technique is similar to the one I tend to employ on such projects.

Inset no less than 4 polys, collapse, then chamfer the vertex into a round opening. Very easy. Sometimes requires support edges to take care of artifacts, especially on cylinders, but it's very effective.

i don't wanna apply turbosmooth , i will show snap shots in few minutes what problem i was having and what would be the best way to avoid this problem

Pink and green cylinders(18 segments both), second model the container thing is 18 sided also, when i make a hole by boolen in the bottom cylinder the hole it makes have 26 vertices and when i delete and weld vertices to make it 18 the shape doesn't look nice. Actually i wanna bridge it with the container shape which is 18 sided. With 18 sided (bottom) and 12 sided top cylinder i got hole with 15 and 16 vertices and when i add some extra edges to the bottom cylinder not to have any free vertex then the bottom cylinder get crisp shape

Maybe stray verts?


Try running this on your model after *hock- phutt* boolean.

Cool, it's always a noobie killer, RappaTools 3 has one built in as well, a vert cleaner that is...not a noobie killer :)
