High tech metaball/modeling method...
show user profile  HANZZ
About to make a high rez model for normal map burning. The character will be chrome, basically, but a machine, and organically shaped. Anyone know of a max 2009 method for doing such things? I'll look around for scripts, etc.

Hmm iconized.. What you say?

Actually there`s a technique for this, was prototyped on recent movie The Terminator. I`m sure it was done on the Amiga with specialist software.. Not 100% but might be worth looking into..

Unity Brain Farts by Uber Dave > Recent Terminator Movie

[edit]

Hello ScotlandDave (not Uber Dave the OP) Ive completely disabled the links that didn't work anyway. Last night It seemed like a good idea to link to the OPs awesome buffoonery on the unity support forums, but today it feels a bit cruel..... and thanks for the heads up I did know what ya meant but I lost the sarcasm in the link.

I think HANZZ might be looking for something like this:

Not sure if there's a max equivalent though.

Having been lead artist for two game companies, having worked with two of the best FPS game companies in the world in a premiere position, having been a hardcore max/photoshop user for 20+ years (12 professionally) and now heading up my own game projects just gives me a low tolerance for replies that are not on target and concise. Not my intent to offend anyone with any prior posts.

jStins, thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

I know the exact techniques required to do what you want, HANZ. You could say I'm an expert with this... but twice burnt, thrice shy.

I understand, having been twice openly insulted.

Might be what you had in mind. It's like metaball modeling in 3dsmax, but much cleaner (quad output), and more like modeling with Zspheres in Zbrush. I like it for quickly hashing out simple organic shapes.
