HELP WITH SIMPLE MODELLING???!!
show user profile  maxstarter123
What I need to do, is make a sphere composed of only wires...
HOWEVER I HAVE TRIED ALREADY TO DO THE WIRE OPTION UNDER MATERIAL, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for!

So my question is: Is there a way to make a sphere, erase the faces, and make thick wires from the edges..
If not, how would i go about accomplishing that a different way.

Thanks in advance

Select the edges, convert them to a spline ("Create shape from selection") and then just make that spline renderable.

If you just want your wire material to show on the backside of your sphere, check the 2 sided box in the mat editor.
Reread Jolla's reply... it works
Or try the 'lattice' modifier.

[EDIT] This is the same subject as your other thread... stick to one thread will ya :)

he said in the other thread he's using an opacity map to do that, he just needs grote's tutorial: http://www.maxforums.org/thread.aspx?tid=432323

Thanks, the lattice is exactly what i wanted...

But I'm still stuck on my other question.
The 2 sided option doesn't work - i've already tried that.

If you can get a hold of a 'mesh2spline' plugin you could just draw a sphere, make it a spline, then loft it or make it renderable

Sorry, not following you... you now have a lattice mesh, what is not showing that you want to be able to see?

Its better to go off with geometry wires instead of material... better control, realism look and less hassle with shade and shadow if necessary.
