Can anyone help with a RAM Swap File Question Please?

Hi Guys,

Long time no speak.

I'm hoping that someone can help me with a max issue I've got:

I recently had to replace the HDD on my PC and have cloned the old one, and all seemed to be going fine. Then last night I tried to open a 1.6MB scene and Max kept crashing. It looks like something is going on with virtual memory, so i hope you guys can advise me.

My system has 8GB RAM, and I've seen that I need to go into the Page Swap file and manually enter minimum and maximum figures. The only problem is that I don't know what to type in?? Is there an online calculator anywhere or is there a formula that I need to use with my trusty calculator?

Sorry if I'm being dense, but I really don't want to mess this up and you guys will probably have much more of an idea than me!

Many thanks in advance as always.

Usually the page file size was about 2 times the amount of RAM you have.

But i am pretty sure that the crash that you have is not conncted to your page file. But im mot a max expert so i will let other people help you on that regard

Thanks mate. Do I have to use a calculator to work it out, ie; multiply the exact figure in MB that the PC says I have, or do I just say '16GB'?

I can't think that it could be anything else to be honest. I've repaired the installation and then tried to open the same file several times - after 15-20 mins waiting I have had to kill it. The other thing that's happening is saving takes an absolute age too. It seems to save quickly the first say 8-10 times I save, and then suddenly - bang it takes 10mins plus.

I've also tried merging the models in, and that takes ages too. It's driving me nuts as a 2-4hr project is taking me upwards of 6-8hrs.

Any other suggestions welcome.

Aside from the issues ur having with max....

Ive been down the page file route - you really shouldnt need to mess with the aut9matic settings - goes for most things with windows and nvidia these days, buy more ram. In the case of tinkering with nvidia settings - buy a better video card.

Thanks guys,

Just can't understand why it's suddenly started happening. It just seems to have become unstable overnight. Regarding the page file bits; it was actually the Autodesk knowledge base that suggested it - I didn't have a clue what it was...still don't tbh...

Hi Guys,

I'm still having terrible trouble with max 13 taking upwards of 20mins to save a scene. I've run various cleanup scripts, and still getting issues.

Today I decided to so a system restore to see if something had been updated causing an issue, but couldn't run system restore. The new cloned drive that I am using is partitioned roughly in half, but the section that has become my C drive is listed as 'missing' under system protection and available drives.

Does anyone think this could be causing any issues? Max still opens and works, but it takes quite a while to open, and as said before; saving files takes ages - and the files are less than 2MB.

Many thanks in advance.

Post up the file. Ill save it down for you with 2015, it tends to remove tracks and stuff

Thanks mate - I'm at work at the moment - would that work with 2016 (which I use at work)?
