| Help my mat out and earn some £££ |
rob@dynamic |
Hi all,
Firstly sorry for the spam if this is not of interest to you.
A good friend of mine is setting up his own business selling skate hardware ect... And is looking to get some designs for the boards, clothing ect... He is willing to pay competitive prices for the chosen designs, so there’s an incentive for you! Plus the option for you to keep earning by having your own line of designs being sold off the company website.
If anyone has any free time in the evenings or over lunches and fancies putting any designs together, it would be much appreciated! All designs chosen to be used will receive payment for them.
I know we have some seriously talented people on MaxForums, so I thought this would be a good opportunity for people to earn some extra buck as well as showcase their work.
If anyone is interested in this please email me @ rob.hicklin [at] kineo.com or Richard @:
editionskateboards [AT] hotmail.com
I’m doing some designs myself and have the templates for boards, hoodies and t-shirts, so if anyone once them let me know and ill send them over.
Here is an email from my mate with more details:
I am in the process of setting up a new skateboard brand, edition skateboards. We have a full range of skateboard hardware and a limited selection of clothing and accessories. We are currently looking for visual artists, graphic designers, to work with us or collaborate with us, for either a one off or from time to time. We are very flexible and easy going.
We are interested in your ideas if you are willing to share and be part of the team (as little or much as you want).
We are currently looking for a company logo, 5-6 skateboard designs, 2 wheel designs, packaging design for skateboard bearings, numerous T-shirts, hooded sweat, crew neck sweat.
We do not want to tell you how to design anything or what we are looking for, but rather you show us your ideas so we can get a vibe of your style.
To help you edition skateboards is trying to be a peaceful company, polite and happy using renewable wood and going for the environmental choice where possible, with influences in turntableism (music) to nature to the raw skateboarding streets of the uk.
If anybody is interested in working with us or wants to hear more about us please email us at editionskateboards@hotmail.com
Kind Regards
Rich Edition Skateboard

Damn I'd love to have pictures of my stuff on actual boards.
Is there a time frame to deliver those initial ides etc? I'd love to try but am swamped at the moment, probably until the end of september
EDIT Can I have the templates even if the time doesn't work for you? :P

cheers horizon, nope there is now actual time frame on this, he is still setting up the business at the moment. The website is under construction still. So whenever you have time would be great. Me and my mate would really appreciate it if you do get around to do one at some point. I'm sure he'll hook you up with a discount board too with your design. Or you could take a board as payment i'd imagine?
What email address shall i send template too?

Ah well, I don't skate, actually, but that would be the closest to real life product I've come so far :P If it works out and I put something personal in the design, I might even buy it. Haven't considered that. What are the prices on skateboards? Have no idea about even a ballpark.
Send the templates to mandic DOT daniel AT gmail DOT com
I'll definitely do some work on it if end of september is good for him/them. The biggest question is if I'm able to do good. :P

I don't mean any disrespect by this rant. Its good you are offering an oppotunity.
Clients who say stuff like... 'We do not want to tell you how to design anything or what we are looking for, but rather you show us your ideas so we can get a vibe of your style.' or you have free reign to do what you like.............bloody annoy me!
I've had this at work numerous times. The trouble is with that is its usually somebodys baby, they think they don't know what they want...but they do really, unfortunatey they only come to that concusion after you have shown them multiple designs.
I'l use this thread as an example,
1...they are a graff style as it tends to go hand in hand with extreme sports.....nah don't ike that. 2. ok how about some tribal designs, celtic stlye...nah 3. ok your being kind of hazy so how about a hazy colourful design...nah don't ike the colours 4. ok what about these cute but 'ard litte characters? nah thats been done (it bloody all has!) 5. ok what about this techy design...nah 6. spacey design......nah 7. nature design...nah
ok what do you want? ah right well I want the the squirrel from 7 in the clothes of 4 with the background of 3 with number two (heheh) as a logo.
AARRRGGHHH!! :D
(I think that maybe the most I've wrote in a long time!

Missy, I respect your opinion, but i think your wrong to rant like that! Maybe I should have been clearer in the first post.
My mate will choose from the designs done which ones he will go ahead and use on the boards. Then pay the artists who created them. Not everyone who designs them will get paid. If you look at skateboard decks they vary hugly in design, this is why he wants to see an artists interpretation.
The company is only just getting off the ground, and are open to all designs. Look at it as more of a competition, not a payed peice of work. I posted here because I thaught it may interest people on here, plus I bet half of you have got designs that would be suitable lieing around on harddrives, that you could send in without even doing anywork.
I know how talented people are on here, and I with an hours work most of you could knock up a design that would be suitable.
My mate isnt going to turn around and say no that designs shit i want this...
Anyway I hope the rest of you arn't discouraged by missy's rant.
Thanks

Come rant in one of my threads, it's amusing :)
Staying on topic, everyone likes an a-la-carte menu - maybe put together a flash app or similar so sk8 board designs can be customized - this background, with this logo/text, with this colour wheels, etc.
Dave's Christmas themed board design ftw.

Thanks Dave,
Would really appreciate any time you have to take a look. I'm just designing one now.
Steve: Yea that's a great idea, i'll mention that to my mate. I've sent him the link to this thread too, so he may have some input too. I'm not sure if they'll be made on demand though, I think he'll be ording in a bulk order of x amount of designs to start of with, I maybe wrong though?
Keep the offers coming in please.
Thanks

I'm with missy on this one, business doesnt work that way.
You contact a couple of designers and pay them to make propositions. That's the correct way. Everyone has a portfolio to show so make a selection based on that which designers you pick.
Imagine you buy a new kitchen and once installed you're like well yeah but no but yeah I'd rather have that one. There's propably no other business around like design where it's "normal" to ask for free propositions. It's a plague.

Hello.
I don't think I can help you much with the graphic design on the boards, except from pointing you to the following links for some creativity stimulation:
http://designrfix.com/inspiration/100-stunning-skateboard-designs
http://abduzeedo.com/100-crazy-skateboard-designs
Also, since you mentioned something about ecology, here is an "eco" skateboard:
http://inhabitat.com/2008/08/19/dry-leaf-skateboard-by-lets-evo/
..But since this is a 3dsmax forum I can give you some tips regarding 3d services your friend could be benefited from.
I design for some time 3d guitars and especially electric guitar "curve tops", so I think your friend should find a 3d designer who is able to make a showreel of the boards in 3d.
For the industrial designers I work for, I make "interactive guides" for their products (for them mostly, not that much for their customers- to test the aesthetics of their designs)
Clients can see in an .swf file their designs in 360 mode..changing appearance (i.e color, graphic design, even materials). At a later stage, such interactive guides can be used on the web for customers to choose what skateboard they want to buy (customization of needs)
I designed this skateboard in 3d yesterday just to show you how 3d images of products to be made can look like and how much they can help you "visualize" your designs.
All the above apply for T-shirts to other skate items of course.
Regards,
Lexar.
