Help! - Modelling a Hair Scrunchie??
show user profile  ghostwrists
Hey guys!

I'm a first time poster here - I've tried looking all over the net for a tutorial on hair scrunchies (yes it's a bit niche, but it's for a very particular project) and have yet to find anything - not even any images of completed models/renders.

You know, these things: http://www.starlightdancewear.co.uk/ekmps/shops/starlight/images/smooth-velour-hair-scrunchie-z1scrsm-750-p[ekm]231x300[ekm].jpg

So I was wondering if anyone might be able to lend a few pointers/tips on how to model/construct this??

Thanks very much!

Spencer

1. make circle
2. make it renderable in viewport, with a tonne of sides and interpolation.
3. Add a noise modifier (and you can ffd as well to tweak shape).
4. Turbosmooth.

P.S. Yeah, the end result is average, but the principle holds.

[edit] 2.1 select a dot ring using graphite modelling tools and push it in a touch on the normals. Do this before the noise modifier, it will help get the right shape.

Hey thanks for the tip ! Only thing is that the circle just kinda seems to wobble a little bit and it's not distributing the noise modifier like the ripples in the 3rd diagram.

Could you advise how to fix this??

Big thanks again,

Spence

Just copy the values (roughly, it doesn't really matter), then I like to adjust the strength by scaling the gizmo.
