Help...Modeling the stitching on a Cricket ball....
show user profile  Octopuzzy
i dont see the point of the path deform crap in such an simple situation like this...
Model 1 stich..just a renderable spline will do, and position it into place..
clone it to the side to make the second row..Then align the pivot of the stiches to the center of the ball, and use the array tool (set it to total rotation, 360 degrees) and use the preview checkbox to see how many you need..
Set it to instance and its easy to fine tweak the result..

I did try the method but i dont have time to screenshot and upload the process since im at work.
I dont give a poop which he goes with...now theres an alternate (faster ;) ) way to do it anyway.

/serioud mode

one thing that grotey`s tutorial is better for is that ti makes it more easy to control the ball radious, stich count, stitch source geometry

so it can be easily tweaked later on the pipeline... if you dont collapse the stack that is heh...

the stitches would be quite far apart though wouldn't they?

But then if you have a large number of turns, the stitches wouldn't have much of an angle to them.

... i guess you could use 2 helixes.
